Permian Basin Fair & Exposition’s
Agriculture Mechanics Project Show
September 11-19, 2009

1.  Entry deadline is May 30, 2009.  (Follow-up communication will be made at the beginning of the next school year to all entries which are received.)
2.  Projects entered must be the work of students enrolled (at the time of construction) in high school or junior high school Agricultural Science & Technology classes that are approved by TEA for the current or previous academic year.  There will be one class set up for group entries.
3.  Projects determined to be “Arts and Crafts” are not eligible in the department.
4.  The exhibits must have been constructed since September 2008.
5.  It will be the responsibility of the exhibitor to place signs on each exhibit showing:
            1) Student’s name          2) FFA Chapter            3) Name of item
                        All signs will be covered during judging.
6.  High school seniors entering projects in this department may apply for a Permian Basin Fair College Scholarship.  Applications will be sent to all entrants.  $4500 in college scholarships were awarded last year.
7.  Projects in the department will be displayed inside and will be locked at night; however, the Permian Basin Fair will not be responsible for fire, theft, vandalism or any destruction of property.

 

The following classes will be offered in this division.  These five classes may be divided into large and small categories by the superintendent before judging begins.  The division of these classes will be determined based on the number of projects entered.

 
 
1.  Livestock and Farm Equipment 3.  Recreational and Home Convenience 5.  Trailers
2.  General Shop Projects 4.  Finished Wood Projects

Criteria for judging Agriculture Mechanics Project Show projects:

 
  1.  Workmanship

30 points

 

2.  Design and materials used

20 points

 

3.  Practicality

20 points

  4.  Degree of Difficulty

20 points

  5.  Finish

10 points

     
     

Exhibitor drawn plans, photographs showing stages of construction and a bill of materials are not required but will be considered if available when the projects are judged.
Awards for each class:  First Place:  $30, Second Place:  $20, Third Place:  $10
Best of Show:  $50 and & Plaque
Reserve Best of Show:  $40 & Plaque
Sweepstakes Award:  $50; 
- Presented to the FFA Chapter which is determined to have the best accumulation of exhibits.
